Recycling paper to wapping gifts

110
I was happy to see the response to the covered jar lids and pencils post from a few days ago. It seems I am not the only one who saves paper scraps and needs a use for them. I have a few more projects up my sleeve here. First, I made some paper garlands which can be use for gift wrap or party decorations. Second, I made several different birthday cards all using cut paper collage. They go nicely together and make for a festive gift or party! When collecting papers, don’t overlook newspaper, wrapping paper, envelope liners, notebook and grid papers.

Painting the Newspaper Roses Red

"Would you tell me, please," said Alice, a little timidly, "why are you painting those roses?"
"Five and Seven said nothing, but looked at Two. Two began in a low voice, Why the fact is, you see, Miss, this here ought to have been a red rose tree, and we put a white one in by mistake..."

Alice in Wonderland

The past week I've been working on decorations for a birthday party. I'm trying to make most of the decorations out of newspaper. This is one of the ideas I came up with. I feel like it is missing something, perhaps some newspaper leaves. Suggestions welcomed.

Easy directions to make the newspaper roses below.

Supplies:
Acrylic paint
Newspaper
Scissors

A Festive Bunting From Your Punched Paper Leftovers!

Toilet Paper Tube Craft: Bird Feeders!

Toilet Paper Tube Bird Feeders 2
You can make a toilet paper roll bird feeder in just a few minutes. And this is a simple bird feeder kid's craft too. Just set them up with the supplies and let them have fun!  I made these just now while tending to some stir frying onions and a few other pots! We'll be putting these out for the birds this afternoon before Shabbat, as we have the custom of feeding the birds on this Shabbat, Shabbat Shira. (If you want to know why, so do look it up, I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, as this project was well, quite last minute!)

Colorful Cupcake Liner Flowers: Festive and Fun!

Cupcake Liner Flowers: Gorgeous!

Cupcake Liner Flowers5

Gorgeous right? These carnation look-alikes made from cupcake liners are fantastic, even more so in person! And you can whip up a bunch of bouquets in very little time (and for very little cost!) once you get the hang of it. They're delicate and romantic with a tongue in cheek craftyness. And they would make great centerpieces anytime, but especially for a DIY wedding, a bridal or baby shower, and of course Shavuos!
Cupcake Liner In Blue Vase

And I just love the idea of using these floral stamens for the little all white flowers, so sweet.....can't quite believe I made these. Mind you the idea itself is not mine, but I played around with a variety of techniques before coming up with what I think results in the nicest flowers.
You'll Need:
  • cupcake liners in three graduating sizes (small, medium, large) You could certainly try using colored and patterned liners for this project, but there's something really nice about creating with just the basic creme liners! (And my local store only had creme and blue striped ones......)
  • floral wire, around 22 gauge (you can use pipe cleaners for a kid's project, but not for yours!)
  • red craft paint
  • floral stamens (even available in Israel at basic craft stores!)

Use Paper Plates To Make Whimsical Decorations For Your Next Party!

Paper Plate Decorations
I had some cute yellow and blue paper plates hanging out in my cabinet, and it got me thinking, what could I do with these? And guess what? Paper plates when cut, layered and decorated with metallic paint dots make unique decorations that could be used in so many imaginative ways. And what occasion wouldn't benefit from an extra crafty touch!
Wouldn't  frosted cupcakes or even chocolate dipped strawberries look great served on these? And they're quick to whip up, so you could even make individual place settings for a whimsical birthday party! If you'll be eating off of your creations I would avoid the paint, but maybe you could make dots from sugar icing, or even pipe a simple design such as a large cursive letter, a heart, a flower. Wow, that would be such an amazing presentation done in colors to coordinate with the table........(Just don't ask me how to pipe sugar icing on to the plates, I've never done it, but it sure sounds great!)
Oh, and one more idea, these could make great signs marking the way to a picnic party in the park or even hung singly from a colored ribbon (punch two holes in the top) as a welcome or mazel tov greeting! And wouldn't they be cute for a baby shower?

Zipper Flower TUTORIAL

Here's how I made the zipper flower
I used a 7" black metal zipper and my flower ended up being 2" in diameter. For a bigger flower, you'll want to use two zippers or one longer zipper. All you need is scissors, hot glue gun, and a small piece of coordinating felt.
